By recognizing a $1500.00 grant received from the Margaret M. Generali Foundation, Sacred Heart Middle School celebrated the 100th day of school on Thursday, February 13th at 2:00 p.m. with a “Book Tasting”.
Mrs. Gallo, the eighth-grade teacher at Sacred Heart Middle School, was awarded the grant to initiate a “Book Tasting” program at the school. Sacred Heart Middle School used the grant to purchase a wide variety of books for all three grade levels and kicked off the program with a visit from Mayor Neil O’Leary, members of the Margaret M. Generali Foundation, school administrators, and parents.
During the “Book Tasting”, students moved from table to table for each “course” in the classroom setting to evaluate and rate different books on display. They shared their thoughts and observations which allowed them to elaborate on their thinking. Students spent about 5-10 minutes “tasting” each course.
Once the students completed the rotation from one table to the next, they then looked over their menu to make a final determination of the book they would like to read. A reflection sheet was then completed evaluating the activity as well as their thoughts on the books provided.
